Former Zamfara state governor, Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima, yesterday November 26, declared that President Muhammadu Buhari must retain his seat in the 2019 general elections because a single term would not be enough for him to execute all his plans for the country.
Part of reognisable achievements President Buhari has recorded since taking over power in May 2, this year are, fight against corruption, insurgency, unemployment and revival of the dwindling Nigerian economy.
Speaking at an interactive session with some journalists in Abuja yesterday, Yarima, who is representing Zamfara West Senatorial District on the platform of APC and chairman, Senate Committee on Marine Transport, said that there was no vacancy in Aso Villa come 2019.
He made the declaration in response to a question if he would be throwing his hat in the ring for the Presidency in 2019.
“I don’t think there is any vacancy”, the two-term senator said. “As far as I am concerned, President Buhari must go for a second term. You see he has come back with something new; the man is incorruptible”.
On why he had remained relatively quiet on national issues, the controversial former governor, who became popular for the introduction of Sharia in Zamfara, said: “The simple answer is that you talk only when it is necessary”.
Yarima recalled that while in office as Governor, he had to constantly engage the media in explaining the issue of Sharia policy as well as other programmes and activities of government.
“While in office as governor and before I came to the senate everybody knew I had to be talking and going round the country meeting the press in Lagos, London and everywhere”, he said, adding: “Most importantly while in the senate during the last two sessions I was a minority leader”.
While denying any connection between the Sharia he introduced and the current insecurity occasioned by the Boko Haram insurgency, Senator Yarima insisted that terrorism had nothing to do with the religion of Islam.
