A 24–year- old unemployed, Chibuzor Ebele, was on Friday arraigned
before Magistrate Abiodun Etti of the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court
in Lagos State. The accused, Ebele, who address was not disclosed
in court, was charged with stealing six cartons of Indomie Noodles
valued at N7,800.00. The accused is facing a charge of stealing.
The
prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused had on
Dec. 10 at the Agents’ Complex, Seme Border, stole six cartons of
Indomie Noodles from the shop of Margaret Adaha.
“The accused came to buy something from the complainant’s shop.
“When
the owner of the shop went to look for other denominations to balance
the accused for what he had paid for, the accused took six cartons of
noodles from the complainant’s shop into his car and ran away.
“The accused was apprehended before he could get away with the stolen items,’’ he said.
Uko said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011.
The
counsel to the accused, Mr Tayo Bello, however, pleaded with the court
to grant his clients bail since investigation into the matter was still
ongoing.
He assured the court that his client would not jump bail.
Bello said that he would ensure that his client always attend the court hearings.
The magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N20, 000.
He said that the accused must produce two sureties whose tax payment should be verified.
The magistrate adjourned the case till Jan. 26, 2016 for further hearing
