Lagos State Police Command may not take responsibility for
the upkeep of the tennis star, Angel McCleod, whose mother was allegedly killed
by a policeman at a hotel on Victoria Island two weeks ago.
This came against the backdrop of appeal by family of the
deceased that the command took responsibility for the upkeep of the 14-year-old
tennis player.
Spokesman of the command, Mr. Joe Offor, said yesterday that
since the command had not taken responsibility for the killing of the deceased,
it might be too early for it to also take responsibility for the daughter’s
upkeep, adding that investigation into the incident was still ongoing.
On insinuations that the deceased tried to disarm the
policeman, who allegedly shot her, Offor said such a scenario could have been
possible, but noted that investigation would reveal what actually happened.
It would be recalled that the deceased, Beauty McCleod, was
allegedly shot in the leg by a policeman attached to the hotel on Victoria
Island where she lodged with her daughter, following an altercation.
She died at St. Nicholas Hospital due to loss of blood as
the alleged killer-policeman was said to have delayed moves to rush her to the
hospital.
