Golden Eaglets Are Not ‘Age Cheats’ – Senator Shehu Sani


Senator Sani Shehu has rejected claims by the Mexicans that Nigeria’s U-17 Golden Eaglets are age cheats. The Eaglets were accused of being age cheats by a Mexican daily and head coach of baby El Tri .

The Eaglets defeated Baby El Tri 4 – 2 in the semi final of the ongoing FIFA U-17 world cup in Chile. The Eaglets will now face Mali in the final of the junior tournament.

According to Senator Sani (representingKaduna Central Senatorial District), Nigerians are stronger than their opponents at because ‘ we eat tuwo, eba and amala and they eat spaghetti and pizza’.

He wrote on his Facebook wall:  
     “Congratulations to our Golden Eaglets in Chile.You are making us proud.1985 Golden Eaglets triumph on my Mind,PMB was the Head of State then,Shola Atere and co made history. “We watched it on NTA,with late Yinka Craig as commentator.It was a World without GSM and social media.And the then Head of state named streets after them and he proposed that the team be preserved together,the proposal was condemned and jettisoned.We hope that history repeat itself“Mexican coach accused Nigeria and Mali as “age cheats”:We are not cheats;All our under seventeen are under seventeen.The difference is that we eat Tuwo,Eba and Amala and they eat Spaghetti and Pizza.
