Arik Air denies reports plane carrying Nigeria U23 team lost engine
Arik Airline has denied reports published in several media outlets that claimed that the aircraft flying Nigeria U23 team to Gambia lost an engine while taking off from the Kotoka International Airport, Accra.
The airline’s Public Relations and Communications manager, Banji Ola, said there is no truth to the reports, and clarified that the captain had to return to the airport as a precaution after seeing an indication light.
“There was no case of lost engine. It is true that the one that flew the team from Lagos lost one tyre while landing in Accra,” Banji Ola told thenff.com. “As for the other airplane, the pilot only saw an indication light and made an air return as a precautionary measure.
“We immediately made arrangement for another aircraft to fly the team to The Gambia.”
The Nigeria U23s are in Gambia for a 10-day training camp ahead of the second edition of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.
