Bauchi Court Sentences Man To Death By Hanging
The Bauchi State High Court presided over by Justice Yelim S. Bogoro has sentenced a 40-year-old man, Ibrahim Idris, to death by hanging for killing a six- year-old girl after he failed in his attempt To Molest her. Idris was dragged to court by the state Director Public Prosecution, Mr. Dawud Yakubu, who charged him for culpable homicide contrary to section 221 of the penal code.
Dawud told the court that on September 14, 2012, the accused called the deceased, six-year-old Asiya
Mohammed, in to his room with the intention To Molest her, and when she refused, he used his knife and cut her throat, and put the head in a bag and threw it into a water channel.
He said the body of the deceased was recovered and taken to the General Hospital Darazo for postmortem, before it was handed over to her parents for burial. He called five witnesses and presented the axe and knife that he used to cut her throat of the deceased as exhibit.
The witnesses testified that he made a confessional statement.
In her judgment, Justice Bogoro said the confessional statement of the accused was direct and held that the prosecution had proved his case.
She said: “I here by sentenced you to death to be hanged by the neck till you die,” She added that the convict has the right to appeal within 30 days.
