Wheel-barrow Pusher In Police Net After Stealing Provisions


A 21 year Wheel-barrow  pusher, Victor Ediri, was Tuesday July 28 caught at Ugbuwangue, Warri after allegedly stealing eight bottles of Calidon gin and other provisions worth thousands of naira, even as he was handed over to the police after he was beaten up by youths.

According to the owner of the stolen provisions, Mrs. Yemi Oluwafemi, the suspect came to buy food from her Tuesday July 28 after stealing her eight bottles of Calidon and provisions on Sunday July 26. She immediately raised alarm and the suspect was apprehended, beaten up and tied by some youths in the area.

She told Our Correspondent, that she discovered her provisions were stolen after returning from Church service on Sunday July 26.

The cook cum provision seller narrated how she left her husband in her shop and went to Church service, stating that it was when her  husband went out to call an electrician to fix their light (sic) which was faulty that the  suspect used her waste bag, emptied it and used same to carry the stolen items. According to her, the said Victor Ediri was sighted by her neighbour’s son while he carried out the act.

The suspect, Victor Ediri, was seriously beaten up by youths in the area before he confessed to committing the crime. He told Our Correspondent thus, “I only thief one milk and three wine and I don sell them give one Welder man, wen be  my customer when I dey troway dirty for. I sell them for N2,800.00, but he never give me money ooo, he say make I come the next day come collect  money. The Welder dey stay Ogunu”.

Five members of the Nigerian Police Force, Quick Respond Patrol Team, led by ASP Omonigho Austi n, took the suspect and Mrs. Oluwafemi to Police ‘A’ Division, Warri for  interrogation.
